Application: Evaluating Crimp Quality

Poor crimp quality resulting from missed wire stands or crimped insulation cannot be identified using standard continuity testing. If these defects remain undetected, the performance and longevity of an installed cable will be negatively affected. Fortunately, poor crimps of this nature exhibit slightly elevated electrical resistance levels. However, the ability to evaluate crimp quality at ultra-low resistance levels is critical.

By utilizing our superior 4-wire test methodology, OmniTester 2500 Series systems are capable of measuring resistance levels as low as 100 micro ohms, resulting in unparalleled testing accuracy. Reliable detection of uncrimped cable stands and/or crimped insulation is a prime advantage offered by the Omni2501 system, which is unmatched by less capable testers. Significant time and cost benefits are realized by identifying inferior crimps that could otherwise escape detection and be inadvertently passed as acceptable product.
